Eight HDMI® inputs for high-definition formats such as 3D video and lossless audio and an Ethernet jack for home-network audio make system integration a breeze. HDMI terminals, 9.2-channel XLR outs, and stereo XLR inputs are gold-plated for pristine signal transfer. Further evidence of audiophile build quality comes in the form of a customized toroidal transformer, separate audio/video transformers, and an anti-vibration chassis. Processing is also top-notch. For video, an HQV® Vida™ processor and Qdeo™ technology work to eliminate noise and upscale video to eye-popping 4K resolution. On the audio side, Audyssey MultEQ® XT32 and DTS Neo:X™ offer incredible flexibility for creating an immersive room-matching soundstage. Partnered with a high-end 9-channel power amp and surround speakers, the PR-SC5509 keeps the high-quality entertainment flowing.
Onkyo Remote Apps for iPod touch/iPhone and Android
The Onkyo Remote App for iPod touch/iPhone*1 and the Onkyo Remote App for Android*2 both provide an intuitive way to operate Onkyo network A/V receivers. At your fingertips, you have the ability to control input sources, adjust settings, and enjoy your content more seamlessly than ever. The two Remote Apps are available separately as free downloads.
Separate Panel Construction
The PR-SC5509 features separate aluminum panels for the sides and front to reduce unwanted vibrations caused by internal resonance. Compared to a one-piece chassis design, this construction method offers greater rigidity and improved noise reduction.
Network Capability Delivers Internet Radio and Net
Linking directly to the internet or to a media server or home PC via a local network, the PR-SC5509 takes streaming audio and internet radio to a whole new level. MP3, WMA, WMA Lossless, FLAC, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, and LPCM audio files can now be played back through your main system with unprecedented power and fidelity. The PR-SC5509 also brings to life a huge array of internet radio channels from Last.fm and vTuner, plus on-demand music streaming from Napster, Spotify, and AUPEO!*. As well as being compatible with earlier platforms, the receiver is compatible with Microsoft’s Windows® 7 platform, which includes the DLNA 1.5-specified “Play To” media-streaming feature. The PR-SC5509’s internet connectivity has the added benefit of making firmware updates simpler than ever.
THX® Ultra2 Plus™ Certified
The ultimate benchmark for home audio performance, THX Ultra2 Plus is specified for rooms where the screento-seat viewing distance is more than 4 meters and the room volume is 85 cubic meters or greater. To achieve THX Ultra2 Plus certification, the PR-SC5509 must meet the world’s most demanding standards for home cinema audio quality and performance, and must play at reference volume levels with minimal distortion.
High-Quality Video Processing with HQV® Vida™ VHD1900
The sophisticated HQV Vida VHD1900 processor enhances the quality of both standard-definition and high-definition video sources. The chip employs multi-cadence tracking, expanded 12-bit color processing, and four-field motionadaptive de-interlacing to optimize video quality and detail. Two new HQV technologies are incorporated into the VHD1900: Auto HQV™, which automatically enhances the incoming image; and HQV StreamClean™, which cleans up compressed video in real time by eliminating mosquito and block noise from lower-quality sources such as online video sites.
4K Video Upscaling
The PR-SC5509 employs Qdeo technology from Marvell to achieve full 4K (3840 x 2160) upscaling of 1080p video sources—even sources that have been upscaled to 1080p from lower resolutions by on-board HQV Vida technology. Played back on a compatible wide-screen display, your Blu-ray Discs and other high-def content will look more detailed and cinematic than ever.
ISF Video Calibration for Accurate Video Reproduction
The PR-SC5509 is equipped with industry-leading ISF (Imaging Science Foundation) video calibration to dramatically improve your home cinema by enabling you to adjust the brightness, hue, contrast, saturation, and gamma levels on all video inputs. Transforming your A/V controller into a video hub, this function ensures that every video source is independently calibrated for your connected high-definition display. What’s more, ISF video calibration has been shown to improve energy savings in displays and projectors by up to 50%.
VLSC™ (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry)
Onkyo’s VLSC employs a unique digital-to-analog conversion circuit to mitigate the effects of signal noise. Data is converted between discrete sampling points, which are then joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a continuous output wave form. The result—a noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source.
DTS Neo:X™ Adds Extra Dimensions to Surround Sound
The PR-SC5509 is one of the first receivers in the world to feature DTS Neo:X, a new technology that offers a multitude of ways to set up the speakers in a 9.1-channel home cinema system. A basic 5.1-channel set-up can be complemented by one of three different arrangements: (1) You can add surround back and front-height speakers to bring out ambient, non-directional sounds; (2) You can add surround back and front-wide speakers to provide a more expansive soundstage; or (3) You can add front-height and front-width speakers to create an immersive space without needing to install rear speakers.
