Design

Great care and effort goes into the manufacturing of Reference loudspeaker cabinets. A curved bow shape, lavish internal reinforcement and a strong multi-layer laminate - which is up to 50 mm thick - give the body extremely low vibration. Nothing is allowed to distort the purity of the sound.
Bow shape
The cabinets of the Reference loudspeakers are extremely rigid. Internal reinforcement and the heat- and pressuretreated multi-layer laminate help reduce the natural vibrations of the cabinets to a minimum. Without a tonal quality of their own, they neither add to, nor subtract from, the music.
Down-Port and base plate
The perfect isolation of the cabinet from its base and the downfiring design of the bass reflex port make the loudspeaker very versatile when it comes to room placement. Any directionality associated with the port is eliminated.
Inner reinforcement
Reference speakers have a computer-optimized multichamber structure which has a system of elaborate internal reinforcement used to suppress the natural resonance of the cabinet. Each driver is acoustically isolated in a precisely defined resonance chamber within which it is able to operate optimally.

The design of the drivers is based on experience and flair. Specially designed software is used to identify the best possible materials and the optimal design. The result is tested in listening sessions and further modifications are made until the drivers are ready for the Reference series.
Tweeter system
Analytically clear high frequencies are obtained using light and rigid aluminum oxide ceramic domes. Their special design combined with the new transmission front plate improves the dispersion, efficiency and omni-directional performance above 15,000 Hz.
Midrange system
The triple-curved aluminum cone (TCC technology) has an optimized shape. It stabilizes the cone at the transition point to the voice coil. This minimizes material resonance and distortion. The patented wave surround makes it possible to have a membrane hub which is up to 40% larger. The drivers function over a wider bandwith, and all relevant distortions are shifted to higher frequencies well outside the audible frequency range.
Woofer system
The woofers with patented wave surround allow up to 100% more cone excursion with the same cone surface and the same weight of surround cone, and spider. Developing crossover is not just about distributing the audio signals but also about setting up sound-creating devices. The crossover is optimally designed, expands frequency response and improves dispersion. A few handpicked components with minimal tolerance specifications ensure balanced impedance and perfect impulse performance.
Crossover
Using displacement control (DC Technology), the crossover prevents the uncontrolled movement of the woofers and increases the bandwidth for the same cabinet size. Sub-sonic, non-audible vibrations are specifically suppressed and distortions are minimized. The result is extremely precise bass, even at very high sound pressure levels.
Connector - Terminal
To eliminate interference as much as possible, the cross- overs in Reference loudspeakers are split into high/ midrange and bass units and physically separated. The high-quality internal wiring with a gold-plated bi-wiring/ bi-amping terminal ensures optimal signal transmission. In addition, tweeter and midrange adjustment makes it possible for the Reference 1.2 DC and 2.2 DC loudspeaker to be perfectly attuned to the acoustic conditions in the room where it is positioned.
